At Antora, we’re on a mission to stop climate change. And we can’t do that unless we tackle the 30% of global emissions that come from industry.
Antora is unlocking zero-emissions industrial energy, cheaper than fossil fuels. Antora’s thermal batteries store energy from renewables as heat for days on end, delivering that stored energy as heat and power at the scale and temperatures that large industrial operations demand. We’re on a path to eliminate gigatons of emissions while strengthening domestic manufacturing, curbing industrial air pollution, and enhancing America’s clean energy leadership.
We are growing our company with people who put team and mission first, value connection through laughter and joy, and build with humility and openness. We are committed to continue building a diverse, passionate, and creative team dedicated to a future where every industrial facility, everywhere on earth, is powered by abundant, low-cost, zero-emissions energy.
Position Summary
Antora’s Heat-to-Power R&D team is developing a novel heat-to-power discharge unit for Antora’s combined heat and power (CHP) long-duration energy storage product, which will enable Antora to expand the scope of our industrial decarbonization efforts.
As part of this R&D team, you will be in charge of thermal modeling of this discharge unit and its subsystems.
Roles & Responsibilities
- Conduct thermal and mechanical analyses, including Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD), Conjugate Heat Transfer (CHT), and Finite Element Analysis (FEA).
- Develop robust heat transfer models to quantify performance of novel heat-engine and combined heat and power product for various geometries, considering thermo-mechanical stress, conduction, radiation, and convection.
- Collaborate with mechanical design and test engineers to establish thermal and system requirements, inform component selection, and help make the right tradeoffs for manufacturability.
- Support the development and execution of test plans at both bench and full scale, to validate models.
- Define and maintain thermal requirements for components and systems, and contribute to cost and performance roadmaps.
- Develop and maintain internal design practices and documentation.
- As needed, assist with material selection, detailed mechanical design, prototyping and testing.
- Mentoring junior engineers, sharing thermal intuition and design approaches.
Key Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
- 5+ years of experience in thermal engineering, with 3+ years of that with focus on CFD and thermal FEA modeling.
- Strong knowledge and understanding of heat transfer, fluid dynamics, CFD, transport phenomena, and thermodynamics fundamentals.
- Experience working collaboratively in teams that built first-of-a-kind hardware systems.
- Ability to work both independently and closely in teams, as required.
- Proficiency in data analysis and presentation.
- High level of proficiency in computer-aided design (CAD), preferably SolidWorks.
- Expert-level proficiency in thermal modeling packages, preferably Ansys.
- Attention to detail with strong verbal and written communication skills.
Additional Qualifications Desired
- Graduate degree in mechanical engineering, materials science, or equivalent.
- Experience with modeling systems with combined heat-transfer modes (conduction, convection, radiation).
- Experience with modeling of equipment for high-temperature (> 500 C) environments.
- Willingness to stretch into different roles in the team as needed, including mechanical design, material evaluation, prototyping and testing.
